ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Marian L. Thomas is a native of Chicago with a passion for the words that reflect the issues that face women today. However, the concept of putting her thoughts into written form wasn’t realized until her second year in high school when she wrestled with the thought of writing a book she then called What Color is Jazzmyne. In fact, twenty years would pass before she finally debuted a more refined version of her original concept, calling it Color Me Jazzmyne. It was just a few years prior to this that she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Communication, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Marian now resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband and their spoiled but playful dog. She enjoys writing short stories that have full impact and is currently working on her second novel.
---
Color Me Jazzmyne is an unconventional, yet fascinating first novel by Marian L. Thomas. Thomas definitely cuts to the core of serious subject matter: rape and incest and the cutthroat world of the music business. The shocking reality of it all mixed with Jazzmyne’s relaxed and melodious voice makes Color Me Jazzmyne a true reading pleasure. The book is written in a kind of free flow, stream of consciousness style that one can hear her melody singing through the pages.” –Jeneke Lesak for RebeccasReads.com
Color Me Jazzmyne is a book that every woman ought to read at least once. Through the eyes and voice of Naya Mona, author Marian Thomas has given readers the opportunity to do some introspective thinking while reading about challenges that make us who we are today.” –Carol Hoyer, PhD for Reader Views

Astroboy the Movie

Astroboy the Movie

Genre: Family/Animation/Superhero/Sci-fi/Action

Released: 2009

Language: English

Writer: Osamu Tezuka (comic), Timothy Harris David Bower (Screenplay)

Director: David Bower

Voice actors: Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, Kristen Bell, Donald Sutherland, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlize Theron

Rating:

Taken from the original Japanese comic of Osamu Tezuka, the US version of Astroboy sets the most sophisticated city of technology, called ‘Metro City’. The film brings us to the image when life run by robots.
In Metro City lives Toby (Freddie Highmore), an excellent boy with fantastic intelligence. His father, Prof. Tenma (Nicholas Cage), is well-known professor and the Minister of Science. Toby comes to his father’s office when he is going to release a robot with the powerful blue core, in order to help the president re-elected. With Prof. Elfun (Bill Nighy), Prof. Tenma put the blue core into the heart of a robot. But for the president’s ego, the opposite element of the blue core, the red core, is inserted to the robot, making it as a fighter. There, Toby is trapped with the fighter robot who comes out uncontrollable and fights back to the president and the scientists.
In one attack, Toby disappears forever. Prof. Tenma cannot save him. For his grief, he’s gone crazy re-making his beloved son to be alive again. He makes a new robot which looks like Toby and exported the memory of Toby to the robot, so the robot looks just like the old Toby. But the real old Toby cannot thoroughly come back to Tenma’s life.
Although the new Toby doesn’t know that he is a robot at first, he treats the robots like his friends---unlike other human beings do. When Toby finds out that he has superpower, Tenma rejects him. Dr. Elfun encourages him that there would be a place for his uniqueness. In Toby’s nomad, he is chased by the president’s robot soldiers as he finds out the blue core is inside Toby.
Toby is succeeded to escape but he falls to the world called the surface. There he meets a ‘trashcan’---a robot in the form of trashcan---and other orphans (human beings). Through those children, he was taken to Hamegg, an abandoned scientist from Metro City who takes care of those children. For Hamegg, the children salvage old robots. By the power of Toby’s blue core, he reactivates the life of an old robot who before has killed Toby (the human) and names it Zog.
But everything turns out that Hamegg is an imposter. He doesn’t love robots like he said, instead he used the robot to hold a gladiator event, battle the robots till death. For human, the robot has no heart and has no worth. He finds out that Astro (new name of Toby) is a robot and wants him to fight Zog, the robot that comes from Astro’s life. When the show is over, Astro is taken back to the Metro City by the President’s order.
Tenma changes his mind about deactivating Toby and gets the blue core out. Later, the president is controlled by the evil robot of red core and ruins the city. It was the time that Astro realizes about why he is created for: To save the world.
My review: It’s a great adaption 3d animation film from 2d animation tv show. The orientation plot shows the changes very well, like playing a little of 2d animations as its past.
I love this story by the way, though I wasn’t really interested to watch the movie. It’s telling a quite simple thing on how we should treat our obsession and others, no matter human being or not. But the most important thing I learn that the film tries to share one major point about the changing of our humanity, in the world of technology that lead out practical things, and the forever bond of a family. We can see it through the relationship between Tenma and Toby (a.k.a Astro), where sometimes a soul is not the only the connector, but also memory---something we’d never considered before.
But I regret this story tells something that is in common with Transformers about the difference of robot and human being---that human is harsh and full of violence, rather than the robot they enslave.
The animation in 3d went out well. The image of the originality of 2d Astroboy is still there. Not to forget, the lesson of the story, there’s always a place for everyone’s uniquesness and kindness will be kindness in return.
Best moments: When Astro re-activates ZOG, the robot which killed him in the past live though he doesn’t know who it was.
When Zog and Astro are forced to fight each other by Hamegg, they both refuse. Then ZOG tries to step on Hamegg, but Astro saves Hamegg’s life, making him wonder of what kind of robot Astro is.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

Title: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs
Released: 2009
Directors: Phil Lord and Chris Miller
Writers: Judi and Ron Barrett (Taken from a book)
Genre: Comedy/Family/Animation
Ratings:

“The world needs your originality”
Flint Lockwood is obsessed to be a scientist. When he was young, he invented a spray on shoes that he couldn’t take off forever, causing him to be the other kid’s bully of his nerdiness. His parents support him a lot, especially his mother, who gifts him a lab jacket that becomes his spirit. But 10 years after his mother’s death, Flint’s invention hasn’t succeeded yet. His conventional father keeps asking him to work with him in his tackle shop which Flint doesn’t like.
Meanwhile, the city Flint lives---a city in a little island under the first letter A of Atlantic Ocean in the map---Swallow Falls is having a problem. The sardines turn to inedible for no longer. The Mayor of Swallow Falls try to make a new change for the food the people in Swallow Falls can consume and change the city’s name into Chewand Swallow. Considering this issue, Flint tries to make an innovation to be the solution of the current of town’s problem. He succeeds!
He produces a machine which could turn water into food that served from the sky like rains. This invention helps Sam Sparks, the junior Weather Reporter, to rise in her career by reporting Flint’s invention. Sam seems to be more technically smart than Flint. Another of Flint’s inventions, like spray on shoes and translator gadget, astounds her anyway. Flint loves Sam so much, but doesn’t know how to show it. But he tries to make her happy with creating a Jell-O, Sam’s favourite food, in a form of castle.
More food Flint’s machine produces food, the sardines’ price gets less. Flint’s father’s shop is about to bankrupt. Flint’s father, Tim, isn’t happy with Flint’s inventions and says that it’s not good. As Flint’s popularity is risen, the Mayor takes the advantages of it, gets fatter, and Flint starts to lose his loved ones.
He wants more food with Flint’s invention and promotes Flints in returns. Bigger size of food the Mayor wants causes the machine out of control. The food it produces mutates into disaster and attacks people.
Flint, and Sam with the aids of many friends they have to stop the food disaster…
My review: Firstly, I wasn’t sure that it’s a good movie by seeing the poster and the title, but now I’ve changed my mind. It’s an unexpectedly wonderful imaginative cartoon movie!
This movie version of old children book story has a lot to share with us. The important of family and friends rather than anything else, what greed causes, and being yourself in reaching your dreams are taken in as the major points in the movie. It tells us as well that life doesn’t need popularity, though the story teaches us about to be accepted.
Good voice acting isn’t doubted. Anna Farris and Bill Hader are fantastic. The design of the characters are extremely fit with the personality…charming. The landscape and buildings are very creatively made. The idea has so many things we can’t reach in our mind, but it’s originally funny. Many unexpected scenes you might like and laugh without stopping.
I give you a clue, you might like Flint’s spray on shoes and translator gadget!
Best moments: The introduction of Flint’s laboratory.
The advertisements of Baby Brent’s Sardines.

Magna Carta: Tears of Blood (Crimson Stigmata)

Title: Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata (Tears of Blood)
Released: 2004
System: PlayStation 2
Genre: Fantasy/RPG/Adventure
Creator: Hyung-tae Kim
Publisher: Softmax, South Korea
Age: 13+
Rating:
Sets in Efferia, the Yason tribe has to deal with the spreading illness called Rheuma, which turns the Yason people into stones. Meanwhile, the war between the Yasons and the Humans is continuing. The stereotypes both species have about each other grow the hatred deeper. The Leader of Yason tribe, Queen Amila has two major things in her agenda---to get her people cured from Rheuma and to win the war she has started. The only choice Amila has to do is using the unconquerable power which gaining all the Chi elements in the world---Magna Carta.
The story starts when a boy named Mano is chased by some monsters in a burnt village called Fuget. An old man appeared when the monsters are about to kill Mano. The old man later teaches Mano how to use swords and a little thing about Magna Carta power.
10 years passed, Mano has changed his name into Calintz and is the leader of a group of mercenary called Tears of Blood (American version) or Crimson Stigmata (Korean/Japanese, the original name). The group consists of Haren (Boxing artist), Eonis Milan (An educated mage), Chris Arcway (An inventor of weapons and planes), Maya (A healer), and the most loyal to Calintz, Azel (A young swordsman). All of them are victims of the Yasons’ cruelty. Felicia, Haren’s fiancée, was killed in her duty in healing wounded people in Mirna. She was found only her lower arm with her engagement ring on the finger. Azel, Eonis and Maya lost their parents, killed by Yasons. Plus for Maya, as she later suffers from Aphasiac by witnessing her parents murder. All of their works are managed by Lehas, their director who cannot fight.
For Calintz, he, in some random flashbacks, was known that his hatred to Yason was caused to a tragedy that starts his village’s attack. Mano, young Calintz, met a half-blooded Yason with a vindi (a tattoo which every Yason got from birth. It’s the media for Chi to gain and lose) formed like a butterfly on his left arm. That half-blooded Yason was acting sick in front of Calintz, asking for help. The naïve little Calintz ran back to his village where only the Fuget habitants know the way in, causing the other Yasons able to get their ways into Fuget and attack. In that incident, Calintz found all of the people of Fuget and his beloved teacher killed by the half-blooded Yason and also separated by his best friend (and rival), Hugo, in their escape before Calintz decided to go back.
Calintz and his gang’s journey starts when they were summoned by General Agreian, the Leader of Alliance Soldier(The Army of Humans tribe), to protect the mages in generating Forbidden Magic to beat Yason. Tears of Blood has to beat Orha Duren (the Leader of Blast Worms, an elite soldiers of the Yason) though the fight then is interrupted. The mages fail as the Queen of Yason generates Magna Carta to reflect the Forbidden Magic.
Calintz recalls his gang to re-plan their strategy in Lester. In their way back, another Blast Worms soldier, Roxy Midka, shows up and summons her Stealheart. The fight ends as the bridge they are fighting on cannot hold Stealheart’s weight. Though Calintz tells his friends to get aside from the bridge, he doesn’t leave until the bridge broken.
Calintz is almost died after falling from the broken bridge and is helped by an amnesiac young woman who got a healing ability, Reith. Her name is the only thing she remembers. Calintz thinks Reith is from Amabat by her ability to heal. As his gratitude for her, he promises to get her back to Amabat.
During their way to re-join with Calintz’s mates, Reith shows that she has a deep sympathy for every human kind, both Yasons and Humans. She almost helps a wounded Yason.
Though Calintz wants to take Reith back to Amabat, his job in dealing with fighting Yasons orders keeps up. Calintz takes an order from General Agreian to fight in Mirna, and asks General Agreian to have some soldiers to escort Reith back to Amabat. It is known that General Agreian is a son of Mistress Ladrinne, the leader of Amabat, the spirituality center of Efferia.
For unclear reasons, the Yason tries a few times to kidnap Reith. Calintz and the gang have to save her and take her to some doctor to find out what happens with Reith’s past, about why the Yasons are after her though they don’t want to hurt her even a little. Amabat, then sends a special escort, Justina, to be with Reith everywhere she goes and helps her to regain her memory. Mistress Ladrinne even wants to put Reith in her list to be her successor of the future of Amabat leader.
In the middle of Reith’s way, she has to separate with Calintz and the others. Only with Justina, she meets a married woman, Rianna, who is looking for her husband. She tells that her husband left for studying Chi and Carta, Astal.
On the other hand, Calintz is summoned by General Agreian to get all the elements that are hidden in different 7 places in order to use Magna Carta and Light of Salvation to end the war. During their journey, Lehas dies killed by the Yasons who are trying to get Reith, who isn’t available in the headquarters. Calintz and the gang realize that Reith is actually the key of the whole mystery.
Although, Reith’s sacrifices are Calintz’ and his gang’s initial lesson to stop their revenge…

Magna Carta: Tears of Blood (or Crimson Stigmata) is a Korean-Japanese game, developed by Softmax Korea and Banpresto Japan. In US, it’s published by Altus. The characters are designed by Hyung-Tae Kim, Korean artist who created OXIDE art book. Released in 2004.
My review: Nice story and plot. FABOLOUS! The complicated story line won’t stop you from playing till the final battle. It’s very intriguing one. The story surely consumes you in curiosity as the random flashbacks will appear in some cases. I can say it’s very beautiful and unique story and scripts… make it as an RPG you’ll never forget. Very touching friendship and tragic love story. You will never guess what’s the ending is going to be like.
It’s not like other story, where a successful revenge would be the happy ending. The story turns that the characters are awaken by the truth, and starts to make peace. Another story for building peace…
The characters are very deep and strong. Mixed in the story, where you can see what the points of friendship, love and the revenge in your real life are. It’s truly a game that would make you learn something, not only just playing the game.
You’re going to love the designs. There are many beautiful views of places and buildings. The concepts are mixture of Japanese-Korean with the Westerns. It is seemed that the details are also well-considered to create. The mixtures of different cultures are most seen in the characters costumes through the model of the skirt, collar and traditional motives.
Justina

Agreian a.k.a Hugo

The opening songs are great, especially the Korean version. ‘Rain’ by Ji-Young Eom is heard to have deeper feelings and shaking you into the core rather than ‘Tears of Blood’ by Gabriella Moreno for the American version. I didn’t say it’s not a good song, maybe ‘Tears of Blood’ song isn’t just fit with the game and the opening credit. The instrumental songs during the game and battle are fantastic too, more agreeable compared to other games, like FF VIII or FF X.
For the battle systems, it isn’t difficult as it’s seen. There’s a parameter in the above-right screen which shows your turns when the red lines reach the points and as well as the enemy’s. One of your fighters dies in the party battle, it would count a losing points, which makes your turns in the parameter go slower for you to get your turn to attack. To attack, you need to complete 3-button-hit in Trinity Circle. The button you have to hit is according to the style of the fight and the elements you use. Those 3 buttons will appear in the standard mode. But it won’t appear in Combo mode or Crazy mode. There’s also a Counter attack to counter the enemy’s style of battle. The story would surely stay in your mind of years…
Best Moments: When Calintz realizes the people he hates, Yason, wasn’t worth enough to be fight with, as they’re taken slowly by the deadly diseases, Rheuma.
Calintz takes Reith back after he got misunderstanding on Lehas’ murder. Reith stops her way to go back to their headquarters as she feels guilty to what happened with Lehas. Lehas was killed by Sdei, who before was helped by Reith in her naivety. Calintz convince her to forget it and Reith runs and hugs him, thanking him.
Amila stops Calintz who is about to give the last Chi pendant to Agreian or Hugo, his childhood friend. Calintz was told to fight Amila, and later Calintz finds out that Amila is his love, Reith. Amila fails and Agreian shows his true self, trapping Calintz, Mistress Ladrinne, who actually her mother and not Hugo’s, also with Amila inside. Not seeing any way out, Amila sacrifices her life to death to save Calintz and his long-lost mother. Meanwhile, Orha, Amila’s most loyal soldier could only witness his beloved Queen dies.
Rianna stabs her own husband, Astal, on the back, before he succeeds to kill Calintz. She finds out that Astal was the one who tricked Calintz and caused Fuget destroyed 10 years before. And at the ending, Rianna throws a bouquet of flowers in the lake where Amila or Reith sacrifices her life and also where she kills Astal.
Lehas is accepted by the other Tears of Blood members as someone who is harsh and difficult. But when Sdei attacks their Headquarters, Lehas tries to protect her friends who are gone into Agreian’s mission. Lehas dies, leaving a deep grief on Tears of Blood gang. Before, on her birthday, Calintz gave her a birthday present, which astounds her. Then, the morning before Sdei arrives, Lehas prepares a little party of Calintz in return, but Calintz and the gang leaves for the plan. When the gang comes back, Lehas is already near at the end of her life. It was discovered by Calintz about Lehas’s past and what she actually wants for Tears of Blood. Lehas was then known, protecting Calintz from the angry General Agreian, when he leaves his Mirna order, to rescue the missing Reith.

Final Destination 4

Year: 2009
Director: David R. Ellis
Cast: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Nick Zano, Haley Webb, Mykelti Williamson
Genre: Thriller
Ratings:
Nick O’Bannon was with his friends by the side of a live race track showdown when he felt something was wrong with his surroundings. Then a vision of a deadly disaster, firstly caused by a race crash, involving his and his friends came up to him. He tried to stop everything that caused the terrible misfortune. Yet the accident happened! But the reality changed---Nick, his friends and some other spectators were alive and safe.
The story didn’t go-happy-ending. One by one, the people that Nick saved from the accident in the race track, died tragically with weird coincidences (careless actions – reactions). Nick and his girlfriend, Lori, googled about misfortune accidents and found that the bad luck chain would keep chasing the survivors to their death. Nick thought that he could break the chains of the bad luck by saving the rest of the survivors who were first to die in Nick’s first vision. Many fails, but their winnings didn’t mean a thing but their deaths.
My reviews: I can say ‘Two Thumbs Up’ for their effects and ideas of concepts and detail. The storyline would make your eyes stay awake from sleepy of boredom. Very scary? Yes… too much scary things on this movie. Myself, all I did during the movie was crying to JUST GO HOME without seeing the ending. All you see in the movie is the creativity of dying in very innovative way of every major character you got your eyes on.
I recommend this movie for you who like kind of movie that is harsh, full of violence or many computer effects, like old horror/thriller movie like Children of the Corn, Children of the Elm Street, and Candyman, latest movies in 2000s like House of Wax, the Hitcher, Freddie vs Jason, Saw, and the Condemned.
Best part: When Nick got the full vision for the second time, about their latest scene of death.
Worse part: Most of the tragic death.
Memorable quotes: Nothing memorable but screams.

Nick O'Bannon (Bobby Campo) and Lori Milligan (Shantel VanShanten) in their 'almost' last chance to survive.

Call It A Style, A Ready-to-Wear Dress... or Just A Creativity?

I took this pic when I spent my time with my fam in Plasa Senayan. I found this mannequin in a textile store's dispay. I thought this was quite interesting. Some of us will deal with confusions about choosing the material in making a dress for special occasions where we wouldn't want to wear casual clothes and sewing method which is more likely to be the possibility for a design to be made.

But these pics... the mannequin doesn't wear a sewn clothes! Just popped in my head that it's fantastic.

It's beautiful... whaddya think?

Another angle of the pic. Ahh.. seriously gorgeous!

Toyz Fair

Last week, I went to a Toy Fair at Citywalk. Well, actually it’s an event I don’t know the name. But I got a message from a friend that there’s a Doraemon booth. When I went there, I was kinda disappointed that it wasn’t official Doraemon booth.

Though, it didn’t have good enough stuffs, I was quite happy to be there and ate lunch at Sushi Groove for take-away sushi.

But sorry guys, if you wanna see it, coz the fair ended last Sunday. I won't be late posting about such happening again.

TOYZZZ.....

More toys..where I got the Doraemon and a weird cute stuff

Different side... really a long spot for a fair! There you can see the Green Lantern stuff, and Superheroes Action Figures. What surprise me was a complete action figures of Doraemon, that you could also find Jaiko, Giant's sister in the middle of the bunch of booths.

TOYZ...What more could I say?

While waiting for my take-away sushi to be ready, why didn't I take a pic?

Or maybe 2 pics?

California Roll? Yeap! As Sushi ordered no.1

Sushi No.2 Forgot the name

The chinese pink girl key-chain, the thing I told you as a weird stuff before

'The Winner Stands Alone'

And my Doraemon Japanese fan

For the next, Citywalk will have other booths. The author of ThunderPanda manage a booth selling cute greeting cards.
