Animation Movies Cannot Be Missed in 2011

After you got Rango, Gnomeo and Juliet, there will be a few more animation movies you cannot miss! Why? As we're still a child inside and we need ANIMATIONS MOVIES! =)

Remember what you grew up with, especially you who enjoyed your eyes stick onto the TV screen after school. Lying on the couch, staring on those colorful animation didn't make you laugh out loud when you were kids, even if it was terribly funny. Yet, you kept waiting for it the next days. When you're grown up, you miss them. You see them again, then you laugh.

Now, after the technology has emerged the CGI theme animation movies. There are quite changes in how we, the older generation and the younger generation, see cartoons! Some are getting better when the Production decides to make the sequel into CGI or 3D animation movie, some other aren't that good. There are still a few cartoons that stayed in 2D style, like the Simpsons the movie (Fox Film, 2007) and Princess and the Frog (Disney, 2009). Remember, when there's also a phase where the animation movies were still undecided, like Brother Bear (Disney, 2003), mixed CGI and 2D, or Space Jam (Warner Bros, 1997) with Live Action and 2D mixed.

Many new characters have been born into 3D, without undergoing 2D phase. Too many to mention! Let's check on some new movies to watch this year starting May.

KungFu Panda 2

Here comes the Panda! Panda comes back this year! Seriously, I cannot find an appropriate opening introduction for this movie. To tell you the truth, I'm so excited!

Po was born as a Panda of a goose father. It's weird, it's funny, it's magically creative. But it's not what I'm trying to say. The comedy shows such a big tender animal can be superhero with his strong will, and his weakness on food as well.

The first movie was a big success. It would be interesting how Po maintain his 'KungFu Master' title in this sequel, in May 2011.
I wish it's really freaking awesoooooommmee!

Director: Jennifer Yuh. Starring: Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Seth Rogen
Production: Dreamworks, 2011

The Smurf 3D
Are we there yet, Papa Smurf?
Nope! We're lost! I mean, those Smurfs are lost. They're so Smurf'd!

Packed far from Belgium, they're now in the city of nowhere and, still, under chasing of Gargamel. I was so smurfly excited when I saw the poster in a movie magazine I bought, but, somehow, I was disappointed when I saw the trailer for the first time. The Smurfs aren't so smurf, just like I smurfed them when I was a smurf (=The Smurfs aren't so cute, just like I read them when I was a child). Too much Smurf in my life!

The movie will be in 3D and mixed with live actions, staring Hank Azaria, Katy Perry and Neil Patrick Harris. Smurf them to smurf in the cinema in August 2011.

Director: Raja Gosnell; Original Story: Peyo; Starring: Hank Azaria, Jonathan Harris, Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris; Production: Columbia Pictures

Puss in Boots

Remember this cute innocent kitty?

This innocence of a little cat has deceived you since Shrek movie had filmed years ago. In 2011, Puss will come up to you again. Thanks to his innocence and fencing-alike talent, Puss now has his own show---in Motion Picture format. Isn't it cool, kitty lovers?
This one, again animated in 3D, Puss in Boots doesn't do anything good and nice when we read about him in children storybooks. He teams up with another cute villains to steal Goose with golden eggs. He isn't that nice, see? But the story goes far before he meets Shrek.
Wanna see Puss' past life?
Director: Chris Miller; Starring: Antiono Banderas, Billy Bob Thronton, and Zach Galifianakis; Production: Dreamworks.

Winnie the Pooh the Movie 2011

Oh dear... Pooh and his friends got to jump into an adventure to help Christopher Robin.

Pooh's adventure comes in 2D, exactly the same style when we saw them for the first time. New story, new adventure come with same old same habits of Pooh with the honeybee trouble, Eeyore's donkey-ly mellow drama looking for his TRUE-TAIL (not love), lost wisdom of Owl, and bouncy greeting of Tigger and sweet buddy the Hundred Wood Acres ever had, Piglet.

Pooh will 'show up' in the cinema in 2011.After years, we'll sitting the cinema seats like a 8 year old, hoping to be Christopher Robin holding the silly old bear....

Director: Stephen J Anderson, Don Hall; Original Story: A.A. Milne; Starring: Craig Ferguson, Jim Cummings, Tom Kenney; Production: Walt Disney Animation Studios

Don't Ever Forget A Good Teacher!

Oooohh.... just click on that video! You'll burst into tears...

This is a video commercial from director Royston Tan for teacher recruitment in Singapore if I'm not mistaken. I met Royston when I worked for Q! Film Festival. He was one of the guests invited. My opinion about him is that he's so freakin funny guy! I enjoyed his movies that screened during the festival. Some of his sad movies can really make me cry, and some of his funny movies cannot make me stop laughing---one strong emotion in a movie. How cool is that?

This one---Mrs. Chong story---really make me open my eyes about my current fixed job: a teacher. Maybe people think it's a low paying job, and even not important. But in the commercial, it shows what strong and meaningful role a teacher could play... in giving to the younger generation. What they hope that could change the world. I'm so proud of being a teacher!

Don't Copy My Style! Get Your Own!

Here's another confession, or, let's say... my other speak up. Once in this blog, my first Speak Up was about my school's academic staff who treated me badly. But this time, I'm going to blog about my friend, sadly I just couldn't get any proof to show, or it would be so obvious to me showing her identity.

She would take it personally, seriously... so you know. Coz, the thing is that the habit here, she would not see and look inside herself, but conclude that I'm playing with fire with her. But, you know what? It's not me, but it's her who started.

The story is... I hate to know that one of my besties is a copycat of mine! Can you believe after years of friendship, you find that she wants to be you? Why you? Why does she has to do it?

What she did? She makes almost the same picture like mine which I have ever shown on my BlackBerry Messenger! Twice. I know some of her personal background, including her family, her love life, her dreams and all. I know what and who she is. It was shocking to know that she wants to be me, through her profile pictures on Blackberry Messenger.

I know it's not the new me in this Naked and Caffeinated blog to show my anger or something. But I really wanna share something like this. I mean, you trust a person as your besties and she said the same to you, about you. Treat you, so. But, why? I can't get the idea. I'm not even a superstar.

Some say that it could be she's jealous of you inside, and that she can't be as good as you. And that point leads to her copycat-ing scene, coz she can't do more. I wonder? But tell me, what would you do if you found the same case? I know it's not something new. I have met some people who did this to me, but none of them was my close friend.

Just today, I feel like I'm betrayed by another person I thought as best friend.

I'll choose to be silent and keep cool about this. Stay elegant! I won't talk about this to her, or anyone in our circle. Maybe, just one person, ONLY. If she ever reads this and all, I don't care. I don't think that she would even notice and realize that I was talking about her in this post. My friend cheered me up and said to me, "You're different!" He stated again, "That's why she wants to be you." Maybe, he's right. Now, I realize the advantage of being yourself. Not that people will get jealous of you and doing copycat, but you lead, in the end. And that's how I want myself to be.

Lead...

So this actually inspired me to make a card. A 'Special Note' for my copycat!

Be Different! The only way to LEAD!

I hope you guys enjoy this silly story hehehehe =)

Theater Festival Jakarta 2010 Day 2

Yes, it was 2010, but I have my time to share it in 2011. Guess, it's ok, right? Better late than never. What sounds even better? I'm in the mood of fulfilling my promise! =)

So my second day fell on 19 December 2010 (the first day was on the 18th), exactly 5 days before the Christmas. Just like the first day, there were 2 theatre shows to watch and one discussion, not a book launch anymore. And like what I have written in the previous post on my first day, the book stand was different from the other day.

To be honest I was quite bored at the lunch-time discussion, so I randomly took pics at the architecture of the building.

It looks neat

The discussion ended almost at lunch time. I took my lovely lunch and submitted some photos and things needed for the editorial. Then I set my place on the venue of the next show at Teater Luwes. I arrived 30 minutes earlier. It took only 5 minutes by fast walking from the office to the place. Nice, huh?

I love animals and I was surprised to see some animals kinda stranded... or strolling around the Teater Luwes. I took some pics of them when I was waiting for the venue to be full of visitors.

Wheeeww.....

Here's sitting the doggy!

Hi doggy!

So sleepy... Power nap mode ON!
Here are some pictures 15 minutes before the show started:

Perguruan (The Boarding School)
The story is about the students in religion-based boarding school in the middle of Paderi War. Although the school is strictly Islamic religious, the students belonged to the school can't even skip the natural sinful behaviour to be the winner/ruler/hero among others. The rivalry among them become a barrier to live within the truth just like what they have learned from the boarding school.

Stasiun (The Station)
Two middle-aged couple are in the station, waiting for the train. Somehow, what's happening in the time being is what represents what they've been looking for in their whole lives of fear, hope and confusions.

That's all. I actually got the call for the closing show around 25th -26th, but it was Christmas, so I rejected. In 2010, I'd lack of quality time with my family, especially to my niece and nephew. On this occasion, I feel it's the right time to. Besides, my 10-year-old niece is having holiday, of course, so she had sleep over for a few days.

She has spent some nights, but I couldn't be at home to play with her. So she was a bit disappointed of course. Then, I promise to be at home for Christmas. Sounds like in the movie, huh?

On Duty for Theater Festival Jakarta

IKJ building. How artsy!
Actually it was last year in December, I was kinda out-sourced for helping Jakarta's Theatre Festival internal media. It was in DKJ (Dewan Kesenian Jakarta). I attended the workshop and then I came for taking pictures and some other journalistic tasks. It was fun and challenging, as it's a very demanding job. Besides, I did it in new place which is so awkward to me. But the people were so welcoming, even very welcoming. Hahaha... when people go hard on you, you feel uncomfortable, then instead, very warm welcome would make you feel odd.

Anyway, I'm happy that I met new interesting people, new friends and new networks! That's what's more valuable... I hope I can maintain my relations with them.

Here's some pics I took during the festival. And if you remember I ever showed you some pics of the magazine with my selected photos published on this post. So now, I fulfilled my promise =)

Book Launch
In the afternoon at lunch time, I attended a book launch about Drama Script Anthology and took some pics. I didn't pay attention much to this book launching, as I was sent late to the venue. There's a book stand opened during the day. They sold books, classic literature of Indonesian writers in English and many other contemporary literary books. What were even better? Those books were sold in lower price. Those are good read books and nice for your collection.

It's from Lontar Publisher

"Promoting Indonesia Through Literature"

"Xiau Ling"
Funny story with nice actors. The story was about a native boy who happened to be a secret son of the town ruler. He fell in love with a Chinese girl whom would be proposed by his father.

Unknowing he had a son, the town ruler insisted to marry the 14-year-old Chinese girl to have a son that would be his successor and planned to divorce all of his previous four wives.

With little humor, the theatre tells us about the impact of pride in great power. The story also gave us view of a love story between the Chinese and native Indonesian in Java islands in the past. It could happen beautifully despite the nowadays racial discrimination between the two.

We moved to the small theatre stage called Teater Kecil (Small Theater) after dinner. I've been there before. My first time was watching my dear friend's show, You and Me, by Philippe Bizot, French mime actor. It was nice, very cold, yet I got a better spot to take pics for the next show.

I was there!

Nol Karat Theatre Group with "Kotak" (=Square)
This one was quite interesting. More like "Inception" movie. It was full of the character's reflections through the lines and they finally realized that they were actually in a dream, and later, the audiences were shocked by the fact that they were in a some kind of part of a dramaturgy.

Before I attended 'Kotak', I spent a little time in an exhibition held there. It was a tribute for the late, Rendra.

Rendra was an Indonesian poet and writers. 2 years ago he passed away. That time, when I was sent to be a reporter and photographer for the Theater Festival, the exhibition was held right in time for me to know more about what he had done in Indonesian literary. I don't have a good Indonesian grammar, but I'm in love with the literary, especially from the classics to the 70s era. There were also books sold, mostly about him.

And, P.S, if you come to this event, especially you're art, film, literary lovers bring much cash and just be careful with it. Why? I didn't bring much cash. There were nice books sold (like I shared the pics above to you) and I couldn't pay them with my card! So I missed it, only the pics of the book cover I got. Hahaha... The next day, the book stand was different one. So sad!

That's a wrap for today! See you in the next post =)
